Every true born again believer of Jesus Christ/ disciple of Jesus Christ is not only qualified but also commanded to water baptize new believer. We can see in the scripture Lord Jesus, commissioned every disciple to go out to the world and make disciples. He expects every disciple should know how to share the gospel, baptize them and teach the new believers.
Matthew 28: 18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Everyone who is born again and obeying Jesus can baptize a new believer- that is what the scripture says.
Now let us check from the scripture, who baptized Apostle Paul. God send a disciples named Ananias to baptize Paul.
Acts 9:10-18 There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias……….18 At once something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.
Acts 22: 16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’
Ananias was an ordinary believer. When God send him to baptize Apostle Paul, he did not ask God that – I do not know how to water baptize someone. It seems it was very common practice in the first century believers that they knew how to water baptize new believer.
We also come across an argument from some denominational fellowships that God appointed certain people as priest and they are only authorized to water baptize others.
Now we have to understand that in the New Testament every believer is a priest.
1 Peter 2: 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Attending a bible college and ordained by denominational leader doesn’t authorize/ qualify anyone to carry out water baptism. There is nowhere in the bible it is mentioned that a believer need to be ordained as a pastor/ elder / etc to be authorized to carry out water baptism for new believers.
Bible doesn’t authorize a person who is not born again to carry out water baptism for others.
There are many clergy, pastors, and preachers ordained ministers in many denominations who have not received new life in Jesus Christ. They are not qualified to water baptize new believers.
