Righteousness of God revealed in the Gospel

The gospel revealed the righteousness of God. Anyone who believes in the gospel can receive this righteousness of God.

Romans 1:17 for in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Righteousness – means to be in the right relationship with God or right in the sight of God. Human beings are always willing to be righteous. They work hard to prove their self-righteousness. They follow religious laws, traditions or customs in their own effort to please their creator and to become righteous in God’s sight. But they failed miserably. No religious laws or traditions can make you righteous in the sight of God.

Also, people want to establish their self-righteousness. God has no intention to modify our self-righteousness. Your self-righteousness can never make you right in the sight of God. Our self-righteousness is as filthy rags.

Instead of that God wants to give us His righteousness. Understand this is God’s righteousness, not man’s righteousness. This is only available by faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price for our wrongdoing and given us his righteousness. This righteousness is by faith from first to last. Faith in Christ makes us righteous and gives us eternal life, and faith in Christ maintains us through life now. Thus faith is both the beginning of the Christian life and the ongoing lifestyle of the Christian.

Romans 3:20-26 “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus”.

Christ died in our place and forgiven us of all wrongdoing. Not only we are forgiven and have eternal life now but also we are given his righteousness. God has made a way for us to be righteous by faith in Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.

An exchange took place on the cross. Christ took our sins and gave His righteousness to us.The gospel reveals this righteousness to us. Now anyone can be right in the sight of God by believing and applying the gospel in his life.
