If a doctor cannot diagnose a problem he cannot provide a cure. The biblical diagnosis of the human problem is sin. The sin is the problem of each individual whether we recognize it or not. We may call it in various names but the root problem of the human individual is sin. All human has this sin problem. Sin separated man from God and corrupted human nature with defilement.
These days People say Sin is just a weakness of man. But God sees sin in a different way. Sin is something that displeases God. Sin is rebellion against God.
Sin is mentioned in various ways in the scriptures. Like- Lawlessness (I John 3:4), All wrongdoing is sin (I John 5:17), Not doing good is sin(James 4:17), Anything that is not based on faith is sin(Romans 14:23), Missing the mark (Romans 3:23), To go astray (Leviticus 4:13, Job 19:4), Trespass – illegally cross a boundary(Romans 4:15), Rebellion (Isaiah 1:2)–is doing your own thing etc.
Creation of man: God created man after His own image (Genesis 1:26-27) so that he would be like Him. His purpose for creating man in his own image was so that he could have a close fellowship with him. God placed the first man and woman in a garden called Eden. God gave man authority over all the earth and told them to keep it under their dominion.
Man rebelled against God, he inadvertently identified himself with Satan’s cause (John 8:44; 1 John 3:8-10) and came under Satan’s tyranny (1 John 5:19). The man didn’t just turn his back on God; he turned his face toward Satan (Ephesians 2:1-3).
Sin originated with Satan: Before God made man, he created spirit-beings called angels. Satan was not created evil. God created angels to serve him. There was an archangel Lucifer, who rebelled against God. He wanted the position and authority of God. He wanted to be equal with God. He wanted to rule all creation from above God’s throne. Lucifer was cast to the earth (Isaiah 14:12-14), where he is known as ‘Satan’ or ‘The Devil.’ Separated from the glory of the Creator God, he lost the beauty and light he once had, (Ezekiel 28:11-17) and became evil and full of darkness. One third of angels fell with satan/ devil and they became evil spirits, on the earth ( Rev 12:4).
Satan’s evil ambition of ruling the world did not change so he set another plan. Satan understood if he can control man he can have authority over earth and he can rule things on earth. So he tempted man to fall into sin and to be separated from God.
Sin entered the human being through Adam. Through that one act of sin, man lost the glory of God, fellowship with God and his dominion over the Creation. Satan then took the throne vacated by Adam and Eve and exercised his dominion over the earth, and death filled the world. (Hebrews 2:14-15).Through sin corruption and defilement entered the human race. They reproduce sinful human being as a result.
Two types of Sin :
a) Inherited Sin: As a result of Adam’s sin, all the generations following Adam and Eve have inherited their fallen nature. (Romans 5:12)
b) Actual sin: When we sin in our thought, words and action. They are sins of commission and omission. (Exodus 20:3-17) If we break the laws of God then the sins associated with that are Idolatry; Adultery; Covetousness; Cursing; Stealing; Murder; Lying; Disrespect of parents etc. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Romans 1:29-31, 1 Timothy 1:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21)

Who has sinned?
All have sinned………and away from God’s presence.
Romans 5:12- All have sinned…
Isaiah 53:6….we all like sheep gone astray…..
Romans 3:23 …..all have sinned and fall short of God…
The consequences of Sin: All the generations following Adam and Eve have inherited their fallen nature. Their heart became closed to God. All have come under the power and dominion of Satan. Sin separates a person from God relationally. As a result, people are filled with..
a. Ingratitude– leading to a darkening of the heart and mind (Romans 1:21; 2 Corinthians 4:4)
b. Idolatry- the swapping of God’s glory for a false glory (Romans 1:22)
c. Immorality– the giving over to shameful lusts (Romans 1:23-27)
d. Inventive Depravity- being filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity…they invent ways of doing evil (Romans 1:28-32).
It defiled the nature of man. Sin keeps people in bondage. As a result, the following nature is found in mankind- Death (Rom. 6:23; Ezek. 18:4), Guilt (Psalms 51:3,4; James 2:10), Hell (Matthew 25:41), Bondage (Romans 6:17; Galatians 5:1), Spiritual death (Eph.2:1), Lack of Hope (Eph.2:12), Corruption (Titus 1:15), Condemnation (James 5:12; John 3:18), Separation from God (Isaiah 59:1,2), Everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46), Demonic stronghold etc.
Ultimate doom of Man: Sin not only defiled man on this earth, but it leads man for eternal Judgment, permanent separation, everlasting punishment and fiery hell are the ultimate doom of mankind because of his sin.
Good news: Man, by his own strength, has no remedy for sin. There is no other way a man can be liberated from the power and punishment of sin. But the wonderful news of the Gospel is that God did not leave a man because of sin. He sent Christ into the world. Jesus Christ was offered up as a sacrifice for our sins. He was only pure and only acceptable offering because he was the only one without sin. He paid the price of our wrongdoing. Also, he liberated us from the power and dominion of sin.
1 Corinthians 15:22 “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive”
Colossians 2:13-15 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
After hearing the gospel the Holy Spirit convicts the person of his sins (Acts 2:37). He then needs to repent for his sins. Repentance means turning from sinful way to the Lord. He needs to be baptized in water and in Holy Spirit. Thus anyone can receive new life in Jesus Christ. God restores His relationship with man. Not only had that He offered new life to man but also the Spirit of God wants to live in man so that we can live for God and serve God. It is by His power that we are able to resist sinning and help him to continue to obey God. one day when Jesus is going to come back He will separate the saved person from the wicked. He will allow the saved person to eat from the tree of life and to live forever with God in heaven.
