The person who is born of God should always keep himself away from sin. A born again cannot indulge in sinfulness or lawlessness. However, a born again person can fall into sin knowingly or unknowingly. As a result, he may carry guilt in his heart. The good news is there is a remedy for this. We have a defence advocate who can restore him back to God.
1 john 5:18 He who is born of God does not sin. He who is born of God keeps himself and the wicked one does not touch him.
Who is born of God? He, who repented for his sinful life, received Jesus as Lord and saviour and following Him every day. A born of God cannot live in sin. But if he falls into temptations and commits sin sometimes he should not live in that sin. He should repent and return to God.
Now imagine you are standing in a courtroom of divine justice. You are the accused person. You are standing before the Judge. God, the father is our divine judge. He knows the record of our sin perfectly.
Revelation 12:10 …the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night
The enemy, satan is our prosecuting attorney. Bible says that satan persecute us before God day and night.
God the Father has every right to destroy us for our sins. He called us for a holy living. We know God is not only loving, merciful and gracious but also is a just God. He demands justice for our wrongdoing.
When an accused/criminal faces judgment he hires a defence attorney to argue his case, to save himself from the punishment. Anyone who is caught in sin the remedy is the advocate. Now the good news is there is a defence attorney for us. He is the best one who can argue our case before God. 1 John 2: 1-2 tells us Lord Jesus Christ is our defence attorney.
1 john 2:1-2 my little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but for the whole world.
Jesus Christ is your advocate. He is righteous who paid the price for your sins and forgiven you. He has given us His righteousness. Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
So when Satan accuses us of our wrongdoing, our defence attorney Jesus Christ stands before us and tells the father God
“Yes the accusation is true this person committed all these crimes, but My defence for the guilty sinner is this – I died for him on the cross and paid the price for his sins. Not only that but also I gave My righteousness to him. Here my Clint is not a criminal anymore but a righteous saint standing in this courtroom.
Friends, lord Jesus is your defence attorney, who not only argued our case but also paid the price of our wrongdoing. And he also gave us his perfect righteousness. So if you fall into sin, return to Jesus Christ. He will restore you; He is your defence attorney.
