Fellowship with God

Fellowship means Friendly Association, especially with people who share common interests. As we live our day-to-day life, our relationships with people around influence us. At times we are blessed with fellowship of some of our friends and families, we feel accepted and joyful as a result of that. Sometimes the picture is opposite; we are discouraged and disappointed due to wrong fellowship. And as a result we avoid certain people and stay away from them. These have been a story of most of us.

We know that sin separated man from God. Man became a rebel and enemy of God. Man is walking in his own way as a result he is heading for judgment and destruction. No good works or religious work can help man to reconcile back to Holy God. So God made a way out for man to reconcile man back to him, to have fellowship with Him.

1 Corinthians 1: 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Here the word of God says God Himself invites us to have fellowship with His Son. Actually, Gospel or Good news is an invitation to have fellowship with God. The almighty creator who created the whole universe wants to have fellowship with us. And He appointed His son to come down to this earth and establish this fellowship with man. This is an amazing thing for us to know.

We can receive this fellowship by having faith in Jesus Christ. As a act of faith we need to repent from our sins, we need to baptized in Jesus Christ and we need to walk in obedience to God.

We need to understand it is not optional but mandatory to all human being. The fellowship of God is bought by a price. He became our friend and laid down His life for us. Jesus paid the price for His sinful friend.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

He knows the true condition of each one of us. He came down to earth and became a human being to introduce love of Father to us and to set us free from bondages. Jesus laid down His sinless life for His friend who is bound with heavy load of iniquity. He paid the price for our wrongdoing so that He could erase all our sins and grant us His righteousness. He did that to justify us before Father God. The wrath of God which was against us was satisfied through His death. He reconciled us back to Father God. Now, anyone can have fellowship with almighty God through the sacrificial death-burial-resurrection of His son Jesus.

As resurrected Jesus Christ was taken up to heaven we are given His promised Holy Spirit to have continual fellowship with Him.

1 John 1: 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Even as we continue in this fellowship, day to day lifeblood of Jesus cleanses us from within and helps us to live a holy righteous life. In the same time, the Holy Spirit enriches us with the character of God in our life.

2 Corinthian 5:17 Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.

Whoever accepts this fellowship call, he becomes a regenerated new person. This change happens from inside out. New person means a change of ownership, priorities and choices of our lives. We become God centered than self centered. Our inner conflict is replaced by peace of God. Our worries are replaced by joy. We get freedom from power of sin. We are called children of God.

2 Corinthians 5: 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

God wants to save us from our sin and that’s why He sends His son Jesus as to restore us. And now if you are reconciled (fellowship) with God you are given a mandate. This dark world is in desperate need of a fellowship with righteous, Holy God. This mandate is to introduce our saviour to this dying, lonely world who is under the burden of heavy load. We, as children of God, are given this ministry of reconciliation. We are called peacemakers. God Himself is making an appeal to reconcile the fallen world through us.
