GOD

GOD

1. God exists

a) The argument from cause

The world is here. It must have come from somewhere. Somebody or something must have caused it.

b) The argument from design

A watch not only exist but has a designer. It was planned for a specific purpose.

c) The moral argument

Man has an intellectual and moral nature showing that the Creator must not be merely an inanimate force but a far Superior, Living, Intelligent Moral Being.

d) The conscience argument

Man is born with a deep down awareness in a Supreme Being. No tribe has been discovered that lacks this. They know that some Being creates and controls. It is written, in Romans 2:14-15 non-Jews do not have the law, but when they freely do things that the law commands, and then they are the law for themselves. This is true even though they do not have the law. They show that in their hearts they know what is right and wrong, just as the law commands. And they also show this by the way they feel about right and wrong. Sometimes their thoughts tell them they did wrong and sometimes right.

e) The argument from Scripture

The Bible is given to us as the Holy Scriptures and it tells us about the attributes of God. It says in Genesis 1:1 God existed. He was, is, and is to come. Romans 1:20 his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen.

2. God is a Person

A person is characterized by personality. And personality is characterized by possessing knowledge, feeling and will power. God is a person. He is not merely an influence or an unseen force or an energy like electricity.

  • He sees (II Chron 16:9)
  • He knows (Psalms 94:11)
  • He is living (Jeremiah 10:10; I Thess. 1:9)
  • He laughs (Psalms 2:4)
  • He is full of Joy (Psalms 16:11)
  • (Unlike an idol, which cannot see, feel or respond)
  • James 4:8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you
  • Psalms 145:18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

3. God is a Spirit

He has neither flesh and bones nor blood. He is a Spirit; is invisible to our naked eye and has no form. Therefore you cannot reduce him to the shape of an idol.

John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth

I Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

One of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:4-5a you shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship physical form.

4. God is a Creator

In creation we can see all of God skill and characteristics combined- power, magnitude, attention to details, super-intelligence, orderliness, form, beauty, wisdom, communication, love and more.

Nehemiah 9:6 (NKJV) You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And you preserve them all. The host of heaven worships you.

Acts 17:24-28 (NKJV) God, who made the world and everything in it, For we are also His offspring

Psalms 19:1-4

5. God is a Father

Above everything else God is a father to all mankind. He made us in his image to reflect his moral attributes.

Psalms 68:5-6 (NKJV) A father of the fatherless.

I John 3:1-2 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God.

6. God unique attributes:-

(These attributes are those qualities that make Him God. These are nontransferable qualities of God. Mankind cannot claim to possess them. This is the difference between the Creator and the Creation).

a) God is Eternal:

Psalms 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

b) God is Unchangeable (Immutable):

Malachi 3:6 I the Lord do not change

James 1:17 God does not change like shifting shadowsu2026.

Hebrews 13:8.. Jesus is same yesterday to day ..forever.

c) God is All-Powerful (Omnipotent):

To lack this, He could not be God.(We as mankind have limited power)

Psalm 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

d) God is Present Everywhere (Omnipresent) :

Psalms 139:7-10 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.  If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

e) God is All-Knowing (Omniscient):

Nothing is hidden from God. (Our knowledge is finite while His knowledge is infinite)

Psalms 94:11 God searches the thoughts of man.

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NKJV) for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts.

f) God is Sovereign:

(We can carry only limited delegated authority, while God carries absolute authority)

2 Samuel 7:22 How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you.

God is also:

Upright - (Psalms 25:8);

Glorious - (Exodus 15:11);

Patient - (Num. 14:18);

Compassionate - (Ps.103:8);

Good - (Psalms 34:8);

Incorruptible - (Rom. 1:23);

Great - (II Chron. 2:5);

Light - (Isaiah 60:19);

Loyal - (II Tim. 2:13);

Immortal - (I Tim. 1:17);

Kind - (Acts 14:17);

Jealous - (Joshua 24:19);

True - (Jeremiah 10:10).

8. God is Triune:

God is one but manifests Himself in three persons: God-the Father; God-the Son (Jesus Christ); God-the Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4(NKJV) Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!

All the three persons of the Godhead are Co-Equal, Co-Existent and Co-Powerful. Only in the area of function – the Son submits to the Father while the Holy Spirit submits both to the Father and the Son. No form or shape can depict the glory of God. Any attempt to do so would be an insult to him. The Three are one and cannot be divided.
